GAO critical of automotive recall processes

The number of automotive recalls has been increasing, and 2010 saw a record number, with OEMs
recalling more vehicles than any other previous year. Not only are recalls expensive, but depending on the problem
and how long the vehicles have been on the road, the process for ensuring that owners are notified also is far from
accurate. Used car buyers, in particular, are at risk of failing to repair some dangerous conditions.
